About Bagmati River

Origin:
- Bagdwar in the Shivapuri Hills, northwest of the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.
- Elevation: ~2,690 meters (8,825 feet).

Course:
- Flows through Kathmandu Valley and Chovar Gorge.
- Travels south through the Shivalik Range into Nepal's Terai region.
- Enters India (Bihar), flows southeast, and joins the Burhi Gandak River.

Countries:
- Flows through Nepal and India.

Tributaries:
- Manohara and Bishnumati Rivers.

End:
- Empties into the Burhi Gandak River after a 360 km (225 miles) course.

Cities:
- Passes through Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Birgunj in Nepal; rural Bihar in India.

Cultural Significance:
- Sacred to Hindus and Buddhists.
- Hosts the Pashupatinath Temple (UNESCO site) and Gokarneswor Temple in Kathmandu.
